The main share of operating income comes from FFO, which in 2021 amounted to € 103,390,416, before integration and adjustment entries (net € 97,656,907.94), including allocations for 
Doctorates and postgraduate degrees for Euro 2,379,858.00 Doctorates with scholarships - extensions for Euro 795,860.00 
Youth Support Fund for Euro 733,358.00 
Departments of Excellence (2021 allocation) for € 3,462,589.00; 
Three-Year Planning 2021-2023 (estimated allocation 2021) for Euro 1,265,530.00 
It should be noted that the consolidated part of the FFO (base share, bonus share and equalisation intervention) constitutes the free share of the funding allocated to cover the University's general costs. 
As far as the basic quota is concerned, the University of Trieste was allocated a quota of € 50,431,984.00 (excluding one-off allocations), of which 
Euro 20,165,744.00 concerning the criterion of the Standard Training Cost per current student  
Euro 27,701,359.00 in proportion to the weight of each university referred to the algebraic sum of the following items  
FFO 2020 basic quota 
Share of the FFO 2020 equalising intervention, as per art. 11, c.1 L.240/2010 
Additional consolidable interventions from previous years 
Euro 2,564,881.00 consolidation of extraordinary plans completed five years ago 
Concerning the allocations for the awarding purposes referred to in Article 2, Paragraph 1 of DL 180/2008, converted with amendments by L.1/2009, 30% of the resources (Euro 2.223 ML at the national level) equal to Euro 27,213,163.00, were allocated as follows 
60% based on the results achieved in the research evaluation (VQR 2011-2014): Euro 16,833,017.00 
20% based on the evaluation of recruitment policies for the three years 2018-2020: Euro 5,244,029.00; 
for 20% based on the result indicators referred to in Ministerial Decree prot.289 of 25 March 2021 on the general guidelines for university planning for the three-year period 2021-2023 Euro 5,136,117.00; 
The 2021 allocation of the bonus quota for the University of Trieste is a percentage increase compared to 2020 of 16.43% against a national increase of 14.20%. 
As far as the equalisation intervention is concerned, equal to 2.8% of the total resources available at a national level (175MLN), the University of Trieste has been allocated Euro 5,494,097.00. This amount is made up of the safeguard share, intended to bring the size of the FFO 2021 of each University within the range of 0%-4% compared to the FFO 2020, and the acceleration share, distributed among the universities in proportion to the percentage weight of each university apportioned on the total university system according to the criteria defined by the above-mentioned Ministerial Decree no. 1059 of 9 August 2021.
