The University's published output, consisting of articles in journals, monographs, conference proceedings, etc., should be distinguished between open and closed access publications. Open access is a principle born in the academic world with the aim of exploiting the potential of ICT and the web in order to disseminate and share research results without restrictions. This principle reflects the high constitutional values of promoting the development of culture and scientific and technical research, as well as the protection of academic freedom. It aims to enhance the international dissemination of research, to reduce the rate of duplication of scientific studies, to strengthen interdisciplinary research, the transfer of knowledge to businesses and transparency between academia and the public, to make the use of scientific contributions for educational purposes more efficient, and to ensure the preservation of research results over time. UniTS promotes the open access principle in accordance with its Statute (Art. 2(5)) and its Code of Ethics (Art. 2) and by implementing the EU Commission Recommendation of 17 July 2012 on access to and preservation of scientific information.
Data from the last three years show a higher percentage of open access documents than closed access documents. The percentage of closed access documents appears to have increased again in 2024, as open access documents passed from 72% to 64%. However, this may be influenced by some technical aspects, which have yet to be verified.
