A patent is a legal arrangement which protects the result of innovative research and gives the holder the right to exclude third parties from producing, marketing or importing their invention. By filing a patent, you can legally protect your know-how, scientific discoveries and technological solutions resulting from lengthy and costly research.
For the University, the use of patent protection is also a way to:

exploit the research results, including through entrepreneurial initiatives enabling commercial exploitation;
foster and develop interactions between the world of research and industry;
broadcast its level of research excellence to the public.
In 2024, the University filed 43 patents, a slight increase compared to the previous year. The health sector remains the most active, with 21 patents filed, contributing decisively to the overall performance. Patent production spans a number of disciplines, including life Sciences, ICT, nanotechnology and engineering, showing a good level of multidisciplinarity, a strong interest in innovation orientation and high levels of social and industrial impact.
