Right to higher education and financial support-ST25

As far as the right to study is concerned, the data on scholarships or similar measures are distributed between undergraduate and postgraduate courses, with a further distinction between scholarships granted with university funds and scholarships financed with other funds. Scholarships provided with university funds numerically prevail in undergraduate and postgraduate courses compared to other forms of funding. For PhDs programmes, funding is granted not only by the university but also by other institutions and bodies, both public and private, which is significant.

Services provided through Collegio Fonda-ST48

Although university residence “Collegio Fonda” is an independent organisation, it is run by the University of Trieste. Most of the costs of services offered in “Collegio Fonda” are paid by university funds. This university residence attracts students with good marks who come both from Italy and from abroad, and it offers them housing services and extra learning activities. The diagram below shows some important data about the main services offered by “Collegio Fonda”.

Active transversal education programmes and students enrolled-ST21

Every year the university offers transdisciplinary courses, open to students of all disciplines. Some courses have specific purposes (for example, providing basic managerial skills to students working on entrepreneurial projects) while others have generic cultural purposes (hygiene and health at work, gender studies...). Graduates-ST07-08-11

The indicators show how long students take to complete their studies on average, the percentage of students graduating on time, as well as the number of bachelor's, master's and integrated master’s degrees (e.g. law). Cases where students take an excessive amount of time to complete their studies should be seen as an anomaly to be corrected.

Teachers' workload by Department-RU47

As can be seen from the graph, the University of Trieste assigns lectures to permanent and contract teaching staff. Both the number of permanent members of teaching staff and the number of teaching hours provided are growing. On average, in 2023 each teacher spent 90 hours teaching (91 hours in 2022). The compulsory teaching load for full-time professors is 120 hours (80 hours for part-time professors). Researchers are given a lower teaching load depending on their contract and on whether they work full-time or part-time.
